  • Teresa from U.K. stayed in Tadpoles

We had a fantastic stay at Tadpoles! Steven and Rita were incredible hosts, couldn’t do enough to please! Everything was absolutely perfect! Paradise! We will definitely return!

This apartment is a perfect place to stay. Very clean, well fitted and very cozy. Everything is cared very well and you see the love to detail what makes you feel comfortable as soon as you step in. The location of the apartment gave us the privacy to feel like home and still in short walking distance we reached both beaches and all the other things we needed.

  • Javeria

Stephen and Rita were great hosts. They were there whenever we need anything, but we also had our own privacy to enjoy Castara, which is a beautiful little fishing village. The place itself had everything we needed. The view from the balcony was incredible!!! If you are a nature lover, you would really enjoy this jungle-like setting. Moreover, the location itself is great. The beach and the restaurants were only 5-10 minute walk. It was easy to meet new people - locals and tourists. It is a great spot for a laid back time, while having access to almost everything. We will definitely recommend this place and stay here again. Thank you Stephen and Rita!

My husband and I booked at the last minute looking for somewhere to relax for a few days. Stephens communication was prompt and efficient and he kindly arranged pick up from the airport. The accommodation is in a great location, with a lovely view and beautiful gardens. Stephen and Rita were on hand of we needed them and gave us great tips for dinner, the sights and getting around. We had a lovely, very relaxing stay.

  • Daniel stayed in Toad Heights

My family and I had the best 2 weeks on holiday I think we have ever had as a family and that is largely down to Steve and Rita and their property. The accommodation was even nicer then what it looked in the photos, we felt safe, close to everything but far enough away from the parties and the bars on the beach! We felt Steve and Rita struck a perfect balance of giving us our privacy but being on hand whenever we had a question or needed something. They even had random treats for us picked from the garden - mangoes, bananas, sugar cane. The accommodation is in a beautiful and private spot on the side of a hill, great views, beautiful verander, large open living/kitchen space with plenty of natural light and surrounded by a plethora of trees, plants and bird/animal life. Yes it has a set of stairs to get up which can cause a sweat on in the Tobago sun but we soon got used to it and our 4 year old loved exploring the garden, chickens, cats, dogs and everything else you can find on the way up to the apartment. You are near everything you need, Castara isn't huge but you have a small selection of bars/eateries/ice cream pretty much as soon as you leave the property. Castara is definitely the perfect spot to explore the island and has a good balance of night life, food, tourists and beaches compared to the other very different parts of the island. To top it off the part-time gardener/fisherman/tour guide 'Look Up' will take you out for a great day on his boat, whether you want to fish, check out the different bays, search for stingray or just enjoy the water and a beer Look Up is your man. We fell in love with everything about Tobago and wouldn't hesitate to come and stay here with Steve and Rita again.

  • Julie stayed in Tadpoles

Staying at Tadpoles was a brilliant Tobago experience. I know that this is aimed at the budget market but it really does have everything you could need. Well equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed. The shower has hot water. The WiFi is also reliable. The addition of a veranda at the back really makes this place. Great for sitting out and having a drink whilst listening to life going on around you. Steve and Rita are wonderful hosts and neighbours and helped us out with information when needed. Would definitely go back.

  • HollytreeBarbara stayed in Toad Heights

It was my first time to Tobago, but the 6th for my partner who couldn't wait to return after many years. To be honest when I first arrived I wasn't sure about anything, but by the time we left I could happily have stayed much longer. Toad Heights keeps you fit with the steps (which was good) and there was privacy. We loved the birds, lizards and the various other wildlife which appeared on our balcony or fed from the bird feeder which we kept topping up. We had a few little problems which Stephen (the owner) sorted out straight away which we appreciated. The beach and restaurants are only a short walk away. Everybody was extremely friendly and you feel at home very quickly. Look forward to returning hopefully next year.

Terrific location - at the quiet end of the island - apartments are very clean and cozy and have very nice kitchens and showers. A short walk brings you to the secluded beaches, the most beautiful I have ever seen with clean sand and clear water! Steve and Rita are wonderful hosts - had a brilliant time here!

  • Hudge28 from Arizona

My family stayed for three nights in Castara with Steve and Rita as our hosts. We had a wonderful time! The house has such a welcoming feel, and is very unique and comfortable. There were many great destinations within walking distance, such as beaches, restaurants, a waterfall and shops. The beach in Castara is beautiful! Steve and Rita went above and beyond as our hosts to ensure that we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. They are outstanding hosts. We really couldn't ask for more, and would gladly come back again.

  • Karl

Everything about our stay was excellent! Steve and Rita are great hosts who went above and beyond to ensure that our needs were met. The house is amazing and in such a beautiful location. There is a lot within walking distance in beautiful Castara, such as a waterfall hike, the beach, restaurants and shops. Our family had a wonderful time!

  • Rosemary Feal from U.S.A.

This may just be the best villa in Castara. Perched on a hillside with a rainforest in the back and sea views in the front, it is ideal for birdwatching, having a drink on the verandah, and watching the sun set. Steve and Rita are extremely helpful and can arrange transport and trips as well as give tips on when and where to eat. The home is beautiful inside. The beds are comfy, the house is well ventilated, and we had no insects bites. Yay! The four days flew by with snorkeling on Castara beach, leisurely fish meals, etc. The internet is a bit spotty but Steve welcomed us to his gazebo for a stonger signal. Castara is amazing. I hope it stays the way it is so I can visit again! I love small villages like thhis and prefer them 100x over resorts. If that’s your style, you will be super happy with tthis place!

  • Deb W from Sheffield, U.K.

Beautiful setting , lots of hummingbirds , motmots, agoutis and a fabulous view of the Caribbean Sea. Quite a walk up the hill from the beach but just keep your fridge stocked with the local beer for when you return, Andy from the local bar even delivered us crates to save us carrying them up the hill. Steve and Rita are great hosts and were fun to chat to and have a rum with in the boat house on heavenly bay. There are small bars and quirky local bbqs or roti on offer most days, delicious and cheap. The shops are sparse but not needed due to the local food. Bread made under the bar on the beach on a Thursday and Saturday just order at 12. The people in Castara are wonderful, friendly and so helpful we loved them.Toad heights was spacious and I know a seating area is being built at the moment to accomadate 6 people outdoors. We will be returning. Bring cash as the cash machine was out of order most of the time. Thanks again Steve and Rita x

  • Rebeca stayed in Tadpoles

Tadpole's, of Toad Hall in Castara, is the perfect little cottage, a short walk from the beach (uphill on the way back). The house is a small, artsy home. It has all the necessities, including hot water!! The outdoor verandah is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or spending the afternoons chatting. A perfect find for the budget traveler. Stephen and Rita are such beautiful people and hosts. They were so accommodating to all of our needs, helping us wherever they could. I had a small medical issue come up and they helped in every way possible, I could not have asked for a better experience. They have great recommendations and information about the area and surrounding activities. A wonderful experience.

  • Maritta from Alberta, Canada

If you are looking for the perfect "fake" Resort get away, with satellite TV, air conditioning, strategically placed palm trees and swim up bars, then this is not the place for you. However, if you are open to staying in a quaint local house that is true to the area in design and feel, and natural vegetation, than this is a nice choice. We were welcomed by the owners Steve and Rita whom we saw regularly with a warm hello, conversation, and offers to help where needed. The staff, Lookup, Sophie and her husband Nyon were always there with a smile and helping hand as well. Nyon even drove us around the island on a few occasions and we enjoyed our conversations with him. He was insanely accommodating, even when we did not make it home from Sunday School one night, he picked us up the next morning without hesitation.

  • Sheila Bats from U.K.

We loved staying here, on the edge of the rainforest, with great views from the verandah to the sea and to lush forest. The house is spacious and airy and provided with everything you will need. The owners, Steve & Rita, live nearby and could not be more helpful, arranging airport transfers, outings, catering to our every whim! There is lots of wildlife in the garden, with lovely birds, bats, agouti, lizards, tree-frogs and butterflies as well as stunning tropical plants. It is a short walk to the two lovely bays (quite steep hill though!) and to the local eateries, shops and bars. Lookup, the caretaker, took us on a great boat trip along the coast to a deserted beach for lunch and also to visit nearby Parlatuvier Bay - all extremely reasonable. We also had an excellent trip to the rainforest to see birds etc with Junior Thomas. Really looking forward to going back sometime!

  • Mia Harris from U.K.

A group of five of us stayed at Castara Villas in Leapfrog and Tadpoles after carnival. It was a lovely haven of chilled out countryside after being in hectic carnival in Trinidad for 2 weeks. We loved being amongst the rainforest and appreciated the natural environment, the chickens, cats, agoti and beautiful hummingbirds. We also visited waterfalls which you could swim in about 10 minutes walk from the villas. Castara is a very chilled out place exactly what we wanted, enough going on at night but generally fairly quiet and peaceful and really friendly.

  • Mark Monkman from Sweden stayed in Leapfrog

Me and my partner stayed in the studio apartment Leapfrog late January-early February 2015. We had been in Charlotteville the week before, and Steve was really helpful, asking if we needed a transfer organising. Even during the initial enquiry stage Steve was super responsive to all emails, and this made life a lot easier. Our taxi back to the airport didn't show up, so Steve very generously gave us a lift, another example of how helpful they were.

  • Adrian & Ali White from U.K.

We have just stayed for 18 nights in Leapfrog and have had the most fantastic holiday. Do not apply if you are looking for pampered all inclusive style accommodation; This is something different! But if you want a genuine Caribbean experience ( and we lived on Dominica for 6 months many years ago ), then this is the business. Castara is beautiful and in our experience has the best swimming on the island with a large colony of seabirds, so that you swim amongst diving pelicans and frigatebirds.

  • Edda Rose from Germany stayed in Toad Heights

We spent a total of 3 weeks at Castara. Of these 3 weeks we stayed one week in Leapfrog and the remaining time in Toad Heights.Toad Heights was definitely the better choice! Prior to our arrival we had close contact with Steve, who then also offered to pick us up from the airport. That was great because we were not as initially familiar with Caribbean customs. However, this has changed rapidly, especially Steve and Rita have we been all outstanding issues with words and deeds. We enjoyed our stay not only in Castara itself, but in particular in Tod Hall very much and we hope that we will soon come back to Tobago.

  • Signe J from Denmark

Wonderfull days for our family at Toad Heigths. Situated a little up hill we got the feeling of being in the "jungle". The kids exploring the nice garden and getting amazed by the gekkoes, fireflies, agouti, fruits and all the colorfull birds. Nice and spacious for the six of us - perfect settings for the siestas. Friendly neighbours and very helpfull hosts.

  • Azura & Jared Evans from U.K. stayed in Leapfrog

Where do I start? We spent 6 nights at Leapfrog and loved our entire stay. It was in little rain-forest of it's own. We hear and see lots of birds and other animals like colourful lizards and aguti. Leapfrog was also surrounded by lemon, lime, mango and banana trees. Although it isn't right on the beach, one can still have the view from the stairs leading up to Toad Heights. Better still, the bathing/snorkeling beach is only 5 minutes (Little Bay) or 10 minutes (Big Bay) walk.
